How to Measure Your Pet's Size

3 Tips for Measuring a Pet

It's often possible to measure your pet at home, and here are some tips to make the process easier:

1. Gather the right tools. Use a fabric measure tape for the most accurate measurements, but you can also use a string or tape measure. Grab a notebook and pen to record your pet's measurements.

2. Measure your pet while standing. Measurements will be more accurate when the pet is standing naturally. If possible, ask someone else to pet and comfort your pet while it is standing to distract it and make the measuring process easier.

3. Try measuring against a wall. Placing your pet close to a wall will help keep your pet still while you measure.

Getting your pet's measurements is easy, and the process is basically the same for cats or dogs. Here's how to take the 5 basic measurements:

1. Body Length: This is the measurement from the root of the tail to the top of the neck. To measure body length, place the fabric tape measure at the root of the tail (where the tail meets the body) and extend the tape measure to the root of the neck, or where the neck joins the pet's back. Read and record the measurement.

2. Neck Girth: The neck girth is a measurement of the circumference of your pet’s neck. To take the neck measurement, hold the fabric tape measure right at the nape of the neck and wrap the tape around the pet’s neck, passing right over the top of the pet’s chest and around to meet again at the nape. Read and record the measurement.

3. Chest Girth: This is a measurement of the pet’s chest—the area from the top of the pet’s shoulder down around the armpits or the space right behind your pet’s front legs. With your pet standing, locate the widest part between the dog’s shoulder blades and wrap the tape measure around the pet so the tape passes right behind the pet’s forelegs. With the tape wrapped around the pet’s chest, read and record the measurement.

4. Height: To measure your pet’s height, place your measuring tape at the base of one of your pet’s front paws. Extend the tape to the top of your pet’s head and note the measurement. You can calculate this measurement while your pet is sitting or standing.

5. Belly Girth: the belly girth is a measurement of your pet's waist. Please wrap the tape measure around your pet's abdomen (usually the waist in front of the back legs) and around to the top of the waist. Read and record the measurement.

🐾 Notes :

- Pets with fluffy hair are measured according to the appropriate amount of tightness, it is recommended to fit tightly, multiple measurements, and take the average value.
- Please give priority to the Body Length for the four-legged clothes, while the two-legged clothes are limited to consider the Chest Girth.
- The final size can be 1-3cm wider according to the measurement, which will be more comfortable for your pet.
- Please take several measurements to ensure the accuracy of the data.
